Yellow Wallpaper- Revised

The Yellow Wallpaper

“If a physician of high standing, and one’s own husband, assures friends and relatives that there is really nothing the matter with one but temporary nervous depression- a slight  hysterical tendency--- what is one to do?. My brother is also a physician, and also of high standing, and he says the same thing. So I take phosphates or phosphites-- whichever it is and tonics, and journeys, and air, and exercise, and am absolutely forbidden to “work” until I am well again. Personally I disagree with their ideas. Personally, I believe that congenial work, with excitement and change, would do me good.”(648)
In the novel from “ The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Stetson, the narrator begins this statement about trust. Trust that one has in a professional or trust in a spouse. She poses a question that is difficult to answer. She mentions how her husband, a well trusted doctor, diagnosed her condition as temporary nervous depression. She must trust him by social convention when he emphasizes there isn’t much to do. She must recover by resting and by not working. The recovery will be slow but it will come. By following his instructions, the family can only hope she will improve.
In this passage the word “assures”, is used to in an ironic way. It is suppose to eliminate any fears that the narrator has any real concerns. But John assuring friends and relatives and neglected to consider the narrator’s feelings and opinions. John intoxicates his wife with numerous of medications, he fails to consider any other remedies for her. He managed to assure everyone that he had picked out the right medical treatment but failed to assure his own wife and patient.
She poses the question “What is one to do?” after stating the credibility her husband has. She also then discusses her brother’s opinion, which coincides with her husband's opinion. She is clearly showing that there is every reason to support her husband’s professional opinion. But she is not satisfied with his diagnosis. She is still searching for answers and looking for more options. But with both her husband and brother against her, she has no alternative.
She lets John’s belief roll around in her head. At times she lets herself consider the option that maybe “John is right” which became an excuse. But although she clearly said her husband is a “high standing physician”,  she hasn’t got better. In my perspective, if all she needed was rest and some medication, she would be “cured” by now. She has been ingesting the pills since she was diagnosed but she is still facing issues. The treatments that she is taking this time was suppose to help but has yet to show any improvement in her health.
Perhaps she is just confused. She may let her confusion affect her whole life and therefore it may appears as some kind of depression. Regardless if she has depression or not, her husband is not looking at the details in front of him. There is no improvement in his wife’s health. She has reason to doubt both her husband and brother’s medical opinion. She needs her family’s love and care to help better her health. Her assistance in housework like cleaning or cooking, may help her condition. Distraction may be the cure that she needs to get better.

Horses

Horses

Imagine you are horseback riding, in the midst of a field, on a beautiful spring day, the sound of the horse galloping, feeling the excitement of freedom. The horses body prancing  in the field inspiring freedom as they go. Provoking eagerness in their body to move natural and delicate with the beat of life.
The speed of a horse when it runs makes each part of the body move in rhythm. Although there are different breeds of horses, they all have the same characteristics, from looks, to the way they gallop or prance, and what they stand for. Being free are what horses are known as.
However, there are different types of Horses, they all seem to be confident and intelligent animals. Approximately, there are more than 200 breeds of horses. Horses and ponies have charisma, which inspires attractiveness to people.
Usually when stallions run in the fields, they have a tendency of having power and control over their body as they run, feeling independent of themselves. When one is riding on the horse, they tend to make the person feel secure. On the other hand weanling horses tend to be more enthusiastic in the fields, however when they are first put around people they become shy, yet they could be sweet and extremely delighted. Despite of their behaviors, when they prance their body can’t conceal what their body says.Their ears sticking up, head up high, hair moving as the air goes, looking straight forward, and tail pulling back moving side to side, prancing smooth following beat of the atmosphere reflecting on their body shows the symbol of freedom.
Horses are mighty animal figures of free will, in which they contain love, nature and courage. Where ever it goes, it would be able to transmits prosperity, and  being free.

Research Assignment

Back home seeing Horses around was and still is normal. Their presence made the town more countryside. Growing up seeing this animals made it so adventures. Watching their movements, so smooth and delicate, as they move so natural always caught my attention. The way they behave its more than just being an animal that doesn't have any knowledge. Seeing them walk close by confident, hearing the sound their steps close by or from a few steps away would excite me. It would make me feel like I was riding them. The most exciting thing to watch was, seeing them run so fast. Their hair moving from left to right, making their jumps natural. Running like they were free in the fields, showing this attitude of them being independent. It makes someone feel attached and liberal to them as they go in the moment.

Horses are known by being confident and intelligent. How they carry themselves in the fields when they run free. Every horse has about the same characteristics since there are more than fifty breeds.
Although, there are different type of Horses, they all seem to be a confident and intelligent animal. Fran Lynghaug’s  book of Horse Breeds, shows they type of horses that there are are and their history. For instance, Kiger Monteno  and the Foundation Quarter Horse have a  similarity of having a great intelligence and they are considered to be confident.

The Yellow Wallpaper

The Yellow Wallpaper

“If a physician of high standing, and one’s own husband, assures friends and relatives that there is really nothing the matter with one but temporary nervous depression- a slight  hysterical tendency--- what is one to do?. My brother is also a physician, and also of high standing, and he says the same thing. So I take phosphates or phosphites-- whichever it is and tonics, and journeys, and air, and exercise, and am absolutely forbidden to “work” until I am well again. Personally I disagree with their ideas. Personally, I believe that congenial work, with excitement and change, would do me good.”(648)
In the novel from “ The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Stetson, the narrator mentions how her husband  says she has temporary nervous depression. He emphasizes there isn’t much to do but to let her recover slowly and  all she needs is to rest and not work. It is easy for John to decide what is best for his  wife. By following his instructions, the family can only hope she will improve.
In this passage the word “assures”, is used to eliminate any doubts or feelings the family might have towards the narrator. By John assuring friends and relatives, they feel like he is correct. However, the narrator's feelings and opinions were left behind.  Although, John intoxicates his wife with numerous of medications, he fails to consider any other remedies for her.
The more John indicates the narrator suffers of temporary nervous depression it terminates by making her believe she’s ill. The narrator asks “ What is one to do?” inquiring what would someone else do in her position. Searching for answers, she  tries to find more options. However, having her brother also being a physician, indicating she has nervous depression, it winds up leaving her with no alternatives.
As a result, the narrator lets that roll around  in her head. Whenever she does anything wrong or someone tells her a thing she always says “ maybe John is right”. Which it becomes an excuse. However, she clearly says her husband is a “high standing physician”,  but yet she hasn’t got better. In my perspective I would assume, she would be “cure” by now. Since the treatments she has been taking this time were supposed to  help her. Specially with the  Pills she has been taking ever since she was diagnosed.
Perhaps what she has is confusion. Perhaps, she might suffer of temporary nervous depression, but why if her husband is a physician she’s still not  doing well. How will she get better without receiving help from her family through love and care. At least by letting her work at home  by cleaning up, cooking or something close to that. It would benefit her, to get her mind distracted.

The Yellow Wallpaper

Charlotte Perrins Gilman, “ The Yellow Wallpaper”

Explain the relationship between the narrator and her husband, John. How does this relationship affect the narrator?

Charlotte Perrin shows in the story how the narrator and her husband are with each other. From the beginning of The Yellow Wallpaper, the narrator shows that her relationship with her husband it isn’t the same ever since they moved to the new rental home. The narrator believes that since they moved in to the autrosury nursery, she gets that it has a hunted vibe in the house. In the other hand, John thinks that she is just exaggerating. Their relationship makes them both be blind. Because in John perspective he believes or perhaps even think that what she has is a lack of “self-control” and that she is just a little “sensitive” for that same reason she needs to keep taking her medication to come down. The narrator sees things differently. She knows that John doesn’t believe her, that her problem is her being sick and nothing else but that.

Moreover, this affects the narrator simply by not being heard from anyone else in the family. Her

relationship with John it’s being affected by the same issue.  Instead of being helped  by him in

some other type way, rather than just taking pills, she gets comments that she wishes not to get.

However, all of this falls back to John not having any ghost believes or the family. At the end, is all

of the narrator’s believes and the whole thing with the wallpaper. Over all the communication

between them it seems not be there. At the same time John might think that she is over reacting,

and she believes that no ones is there for her.

The Fall Of The House of Usher

  1. " A sense of insufferable gloom pervaded my spirit"
  2. Edgar mentions how on his way to Usher's house he "sense" an "insufferable bloom" going and spreading through his "spirit". Leaving a weird feeling and sensation in him that he can't describe. He just keeps going, but not having a good feeling about it.
  3. "The clouds hung oppressively low in the heavens". By Edgar saying " the clouds hung oppressively" it symbolizes unhappy, the view and the moment looks down or depressed.
  4. In the beginning of the poem, Edgar tells us that is almost night time, quiet, and a mysterious evening has lay on him. After a long day of traveling, the day is starting to look miserable, tired and scary. He also mentioned "soundless day", as an a quiet day, nothing bothering him, just a strange sensation, and the loneliness.
  5. It was a lonely day of traveling. A dark day, without any light no where near. A lonely route, everything looking miserable. Everything so quiet, the clouds dropping and the sky getting dark as black.
  6. A mysterious day, the sky dropping and laying on my way to Usher's house. Quiet, lonely and long route, that displays a depressing sound, with a dark light at the end.
